Bass in clean water

My mate took some cool footage of bass in clean water. I have not fished for a while and so badly need to get back onto the water to do some serious bass fishing.

Anyway have a look at the footage.

DIY Fishing Crate

I made this crate a while ago, but at the time did not realise how versatile it will be. This has now become my standard diy fishing crate. No mater if I am in a boat of just on dry land. I am busy doing extras to this crate as I want to add my GPS and Fish-finder onto it. So I am making a little table to attach suction mounts to. Will upload pictures when I am done.

So here some some pictures with the diy fishing crate in the different situations.

Ostrap competition time

I have been given a Ostrap that I would like to give you!

So how does this work?
1.On the right of the site, subscribe to blog via email. Do that. This will give you an entry into the draw. One of my kids will pull your name out of a hat on the 31st of October 2014. If you already have subscribed well you are in the draw.

2. Due to the fact that the post office is having a strike we need to be creative in how I am going to get this Ostrap Paracord bracelet to you. So for now my thinking is that we will need to ask our mates on facebook, email or whatsapp if they are going to your part of the world from the JHB area. I will then make a plan to get the strap to them and they can make a plan to get it to you.
3. So after the draw I will contact you and we can find out where you are and then make the next part of the plan from there.

African Sharp Tooth Catfish on fly

Short clip of one of the fish we landed. All African Sharp Tooth Catfish were caught on fly and were released. Thanks to Dewan Hamman for the video

I have often surprised Barbel ( also known as Catfish ) paddling around a dam. This video is inspiring and I am keen to do this next time I go fishing.

Tiervis Bonanza (Tiger fish)

Many Many moons ago I went with my Brother in law to the Jozini Tiervis Bonanza. I still have the T Shirt 🙂 it is a little bit worse for wear.  The mission was we drove down from JHB and my Father would come from Eshowe with the boat. We would then camp in the main site where the comp happened.  It all worked out very well, lots of fun was had by all. We had no luck with the big Tiger fish.

I had even caught to tilapia out of my father in laws dam to use as dead bait.  The big Tiger fish where just not interested. So we did lots of drifting around and lure casting. I saw lots of little tiger fish chasing my lures which is still such fun.

Meed to make a mission to go back there with my kids and see if we can catch a big one.

Confession and a Regret

This has been plaguing my mind for a while. I went to the St Lucia lakes to do some lure fishing and exploring. I did a small bit of lure fishing but no exploring. We I look back now I did not drift the shallows casting a fly or a drop shot at fish. I did not go and look for the clean water to see if I could do some sight fishing.

This is nobodies fault but my own. I just wanted to get it off my chest and use this as a reminder to myself to not forget the kind of fishing I love.

How Fishing Rods Are Made

G. Loomis makes some of the finest fishing rods on the planet. This video shows exactly how they are made right here in the USA in their Woodland, WA factory.
